🔬 The Engineering of AVIF
AVIF is derived from the AV1 video codec developed by the Alliance for Open Media (Google, Netflix, Amazon). Because video requires insane compression to stream smoothly, applying that logic to static images results in mind-blowing efficiency.
🎨 High Fidelity at Low Bitrates
When you compress a JPEG heavily, you get blocky artifacts. When you compress WebP heavily, it starts to look blurry or "smudged." When you compress AVIF heavily, it maintains crystal clear edges and gradient preservation. This makes it perfect for e-commerce product photos.
⚙️ Implementation
Generating an AVIF file is CPU-intensive. ImageTight supports AVIF in Browser Engine using a WebAssembly encoder and in Cloud Engine using server-side encoding.
